Country garden and estate in West Sussex

A large project carried out in conjunction with construction of the new house and restoration of the old farmhouse. The house overlooks rolling Sussex countryside and is set within a 200 acre country estate.

The formal gardens were designed in an arts and crafts style. These consist of the driveway and and main entrance to the North, breakfast terrace and formal vegetable garden the the East, main formal gardens to the South and a sheltered walled garden to the West.

The South garden falls away from the house and is terraced with Sussex stone retaining walls, Yorkstone terrace and gravel paths leading along rope arbours and through formal yew hedges to a lower lawn and radiating steps overlooking a large formal canal.

There are concealed garden rooms to each side  including a swimming pool and restored poolhouse and terrace. Extensive planting including over 150 different herbaceous perennials were planted to create woodland walks, large herbaceous borders, mixed shrubs and shady borders and a large cutting garden.

The garden was designed and created over a twelve month period and delivered on time and within budget.
